"Don't turn your back on me!"
King Uzziah // 2 Chronicles 26:3-23
We have all heard the sayings "Dont bite the hand that feeds you" or "Don't turn your back on me". People allow their pride or worldly assets attained to result in a change. A change that includes forgetting who helped you get where you are ultimately.
Well this story features King Uzziah who started off as a great King but got prideful and then everything changed. King Uzziah was a great king because he did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, even at sixteen. As long as we seek the Lord, God will give us success and that's what he did for Uzziah. If you respect God and have faith in all that he says everything will go smoothly. King Uzziah was greatly helped by God (verse 15). His fame spread and everybody loved him. Until.......he became "powerful". Something began to change on the inside of him. His PRIDE led to his downfall. He put God on the back burner and believed he didn't need his help anymore. The minute we move from "God you know best" to "God I think I got it from here" we are basically ripping God's hands off of our lives which is something we definitely can't afford. We can't let our accomplishments result in unfaithfulness and ungratefulness of God's help or anybody's help for that matter. He attempted to do something that defied God by going into the temple and burning incense which only the priest can do. The result was him breaking out into leprosy. Because of this he was no longer king and died with leprosy and was buried in a separate place from the other kings.
The thing is that this also applies to us as people. Its simple as this treat people how you would want to be treated. If someone is providing for you or with you during the hard times while you are trying to get to a certain place in life, don't act all brand new when you finally get to that place. Betrayal and disloyalty are two of the worst attributes that someone can possess. Remember your help and they'll remember you. Some way or another you have to end up going back for even the smallest thing. Don't forget you'll regret it.
- God cannot help us if we don't allow him to.
-Whenever we defy God's word or "think" we know better than God. The outcome will never be pretty.
-We need to be in a mindset that says "God you know best! I don't". In a posture of humility God will be there to help us.
